Sunday, lovely Sunday!
I love the weekend! Sunday morning means weekend herding lessons are here
and I am off to the farm for some sheep time! Herding is my FAVORITE thing in
the whole world….I pretty much dream of sheep 24/7. Since I don’t live on a
farm I only get to herd on weekends with my Mom, who, by the way thinks she
is getting the hang of this herding thing…..(I haven’t the heart to tell her how
wrong she is!)
I think of Mom as a two legged buffoon stumbling around the sheep pen or out
in the pasture…meanwhile I, unfortunately, am forced to pretend to comply with
the buffoon’s commands while I still maintain control of the mob of sheep that
Mom seems to be consistently trying to scatter! Sheesh….if she would just let
me take care of things on my own!
As usual we arrive at the farm at 10:00 AM! I have to admit I get pretty wired as
we pull onto the road that leads to the big red barn. The lovely scent of sheep
and sheep droppings wafts through the window of the car…Oooohhhh, it is pure
bliss!
When Mom finally lets me out of the car I race to the barn pulling with all my
might to get to the sheep as fast as I can. Of course Mom has to correct me and
make me lie down and stop pulling. (Error number one in my eyes…I could’ve
been out in the field by now doing some good!)
Instead, I try to contain my enthusiasm for the job ahead and trot next to Mom
through the barn and out into the field where the sheep are waiting for me.
There is really deep snow again today so we are only going to be able to work in
the smaller pen. Hmmm…that’s not so bad, I like the small pen when there’s lots
of snow, it gets hard to run in the big pasture with deep snow. We head
towards the small pen with about ten sheep in it and they are already paying
attention to me and watching my every move. This pleases me!

Well, I better put my obedient face on so that I can get in the pen by the sheep.
Fine, I’ll lie down and wait at the gate until you tell me to come through. For the
life of me I can’t figure out why these “two legs” make such a production out of
going through a freaking gate! If I really wanted to I could just jump the darn
fence anyway! Don't they realize this? But alas, it seems to please the bumbling
fool when I enter the pen this way so I guess I will allow her the cheap thrill of
making me wait my turn.
I walk through the gate as soon as I am told that I can come into the pen and
what do you think happens next!? You won’t believe it….LIE DOWN!
the opening so I can fly through as soon as
There she goes telling me to lie down again!
it is open big enough for me to fit. Drat! Oh
There she goes telling me to lie down again!
Oh great! Now she is making me wait to
come through the gate too! My hopes are to
dashed to the ground that I am going to get
to run the show today as I scornfully realize
that the inept human (aka Mom) is again pen
going to be fumbling around in the sheep
pen with me once again. Sigh! I just can’t
believe that I am supposed to be listening to
“HER”!!! Egad! The whole plan of following
sounds like a train going nowhere fast!
directions from the two legged buffoon
sounds like a train going nowhere fast!
Unbelievable right?!
Why in the world would anyone think that the right thing
to do is to lie down when there are perfectly good sheep
about fifteen feet away that need to be moved! Oh, the
horror of the human brain! Bumbling Mom is lucky that I
am so willing to comply with her undeniably ridiculous
demands!
Hmmmpphhh….this time and this time only…I will do as
you say today….but I am not so sure about next
weekend…….
