Marley is a charming and delightful border collie mix. In our opinion, he is handsomer than many purebred border collies. He is a joyful, goofy dog! The last of the summer heat finds him seeking a cool, shady spot when outside but he is the first at the gate when he thinks its time for a walk or ride. After months of not showing interest in toys, Marley has finally discovered the fun of stuffed toys and anything squeaky. He still has little interest in balls or Frisbees but he loves to run wit the other dogs as they chase them.
Marley forms a strong bond with his people, and has always exhibited excellent recall. With a call of his name returns to your feet, sitting and gazing up to you as if to say “All right, what’s next?” He will be a loyal, fun loving company for a family.
Marley is about 4 years old, and is housetrained. He is amazing in that he has an “on” and “off” switch. He is great with other dogs, and he prefers to be the leader of the pack. He is fine with inside cats. He has a strong prey drive so is not to be trusted with squirrels, etc. Thunderstorms make Marley nervous but he is not destructive.
All Marley’s immunizations are current, he is neutered and microchipped. He is on flea/tick and heartworm preventative.

Kirra One year old

Stunning, smart and spirited. Kirra is all of that, in one petite package! She has boundless energy, a love of life and is curious about everything! One of her favorite things to do is to chase and play with our other dogs. She will play as gentle or as rough as the other dog dictates. Another favorite activity of Kirra’ s is to run all over the house collecting stuffed toys, and to mound them up in a pile. She now can carry up to three toys in her mouth at the same time!

Kirra is being fostered in southern IL near St. Louis. She is spayed, heartworm tested and on preventative and microchipped. She is current on shots and has been wormed.
To learn more about Kirra, or to apply to adopt her contact Chris at Animal Protective Association of Southern Illinois (APA of Southern IL) at techni@midwest.net
Animal Protective Association of Southern Illinois is a licensed, not for profit corporation domiciled in Illinois. We mostly do border collie rescue, however we help all breeds of dogs. We have foster homes located as far south as Louisville, KY and as far north as Traverse City, MI. Please see our petfinder site at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/IL153.html

She is mostly housetrained. She has never had a potty accident in the house, although we take her outside frequently. Kirra is crate trained, but will bark like crazy if she is crated and her furry friends are romping in the house and having fun. She still will jump on furniture and the kitchen counter, but is improving all the time.
Kirra needs a pretty high energy home. We would classify her as a very active bc, and needs routine exercise and mental stimulation. She loves to play “ball”, mostly brings it back for you to toss. And toss again. She also has some herding instinct, and is quite reactive. Part of this is from her being in a cage for three months before she came to us.
She would do best either as an only dog, or with another very active and outgoing dog. She is fine with our cat, but she will chase him but not hurt him. She is too high strung for small children, as she would knock them over by mistake. She will need a fenced yard.

(Sorry...we are having some trouble with Kirra's photos. We are trying to correct it).

Kirra is a purebred, black and white medium coat “prick ear” border collie about a year old. She is very friendly with everyone, although she will bark at strangers initially.

Patti

This is one happy dog! Her tail is always wagging and she always has a smile on her face! She loves people and other animals, she knows she would love to chase the squirrels we see when we are on our walks, but she doesn’t. She is very laid back in the house and more active outside and she really is enjoying this cooler weather.

All her vet work is complete, she is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm tested negative and on preventative. She has had a fecal, microchip and is on flea/tick preventative.

Her speed control is set on medium, because of her hips she doesn’t move as fast as other BC’s but don’t think she is an invalid. She runs and jumps and plays with you, just not as fast or as high or as long. She doesn’t seem to be bothered by her hips, she takes everything in stride. She loves to play with you, or sit with you, or sleep by your bed at night. She just really loves to be with you.
She is very cute and her personality is starting to come out more and more now that she is getting adjusted. She has a little celebration dance that she does when she is especially proud of a well caught ball, while she is bringing the ball back to you she will bob her head up and down and does a little hop-skip prance as she returns the ball to you. I can’t help but think of the touch down dances I see the pro’s do, she just doesn’t spike the ball!
Patti is very sweet and gentle, she has gotten to really love her walks and playing, she goes right into her kennel without any complaints and she will put up with me brushing her now. She will make someone a really great companion and playmate. I think she is a dog with a great big heart just waiting to lavish her love on you.
Patti will eventually need hip surgery, but it is not advised now. The rescue is willing to help pay for the surgery when it is needed. For now Patti is on prescription medication and supplements (both low cost).

Nell is amazingly smart and learns at lightening speeds. She is a beautiful female Border Collie about a year old. She currently weighs 35 lbs. and stands 17 inches. Her coat is a shinny black and bright white. Her teeth are pearly white and her gums are in excellent condition.
She is very loving and enjoys human attention and approval. She has been a few kids ranging in age from 2 to 10 and she is very gentle with children and outstandingly affectionate and sweet with them.
She loves to have a toy and be chased by another dog. She now brings the Frisbee back and her catching is beautiful.
She has begun to learn basic commands. She sits to be pet and on command. She is great on leash and has learned how to heal as well. She has begun to respond the words "leave it” and she comes to her name. We are teaching her down and off as well.
I have bathed her twice and the hose really scares her. She will play and splash about in our baby pool on hot days. She will let me cut her nails and she loves to be brushed.
She got a bit nervous when a thunder storm began while we were in the back yard but once inside she was fine.
Nell sleeps in a kennel at night and during the day when no one is home.
Nell came from the Columbia, Missouri area and was spayed, micro-chipped, and is up to date on her shots and negative for HW. She has been treated with flea control and HW prevention.

PD 7 years old
PD’s perfect home would be with someone who is home a good portion of the day, and someone who would like a companion. He is a lower energy border collie, and just wants human company. He would be a great dog for someone who likes to putter around the yard while throwing a tennis ball for PD to chase.
His recall outside is excellent and he stops on a dime when called, even if a distraction is present. He roams my unfenced yard without a tie out and has not once tried to wander (I think he realizes how nice it is to have a home that doesn’t keep him kenneled constantly).
PD is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention. He had his teeth cleaned very recently. The only thing he needs now is a forever home, with someone as devoted to him as he will be to his new family.
For more information on how to adopt PD, contact Chris at Animal Protective Association of Southern Illinois at techni@midwest.com or go to our website at: http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/IL153.html

The biggest question I get on PD is: what does PD stand for? Although no one knows the answer to the question, I have been given answers such as: Pretty Dog and Positively Dashing. As his foster mom I would have to say either Perfect Dog or Precious Darling. He is 7 years old, but don’t let that fool you - he can chase a tennis ball as well as any 2 year old, but he has an off switch. When he is in the house, he is a perfect gentleman with the exception of a little counter/pantry surfing. He loves to follow me around and lie at my feet. When I am cooking dinner, he lies under the kitchen table and is content to just be in the room with me. He is my constant companion.
PD has learned sit, and is working on stay. He has learned not to just run out the door when it is opened, and is working on a few other commands.
He has not had a lot of leash walking so he could use some work on that, although his problem is not pulling. He wants to walk right in front of me, and watch me the whole time. I have not yet met anyone who hasn’t fallen in love with him instantly. I've taken him to very public places where he let everyone walk up and pet him, and he gets along with all the other dogs he has met. He focuses quite intently on cats, so would probably be best in a non-cat home.

Bonnie is a sweet 7 year old Border Collie. She has the typical black and white markings with a hint of brown here and there. Her eyes are very expressive and she is very loving. She would be a wonderful addition to any family since she has a mature nature about her. Bonnie is very responsive to human affection and praise.
She knows basic commands such as “sit”, “down”, “come” and “no”. She walks well on leash and is house trained. Bonnie sleeps in a kennel at night and during the day when no one is home.
Bonnie entertains herself with various balls and Frisbees and she loves a good game of fetch as well. She loves to hang out in the back yard where she either relaxes or romps around with her toys.
Bonnie is spayed, micro-chipped, and is up to date on her shots and negative for heartworm. She has been treated with flea control and HW prevention.
Bonnie will make an excellent pet for her new family. She is not a demanding dog, and loves being part of a family. She would be fine as an only dog, or paired with a more submissive dog.
