Pet sitting for past adopters to raise funds
After a foster dog has left your home to go on to its new family, offer a
convenient and alternative ‘home’ for it when Mom and Dad leave for
vacation. This convenience will continue a confident, supportive
relationship with you and the adopters, and give you visitation rights.
Offer this service during the adoption by adding it to your adoption
contract. An effective phrase may be, “BCAA welcomes your dog into
rescue while you are away. Please consider this loving service that will
provide a safe, nurturing environment while you travel….contact your
foster home for further details. After all, who knows your dog best?”
After assuring the adopters of how well you know the dog and its
needs, this gesture can show them trust, care, and continued love for
their dog. If you live too far from the adopters, you may want to pair up
with a colleague who lives nearer to the adopters and who can offer an
exchange of such services.
Start by researching the going kennel rate. If the low end kennel
charges $15 and the high-end kennel charges $30, choose a midline rate
like $20-$23.
All fosters know how hard it is to say goodbye; therefore, proposing pet-
sitting will make that heartbreaking goodbye a little easier. Besides, the
dog is already at ease in your home and can probably stand a little
“training up,” ensuring a “forever” home.
Many adopters will be willing and grateful for this service. Based on the
relationship you have made and the bond you have with their new
“baby,” you will put their minds at ease as you benefit them, yourself,
and the dog.
This will be quite an attention getter article in your newsletters or
announce this service to your e-groups list of past adopters and
supporters!

laws, licensing requirements, etc. **
